I wanted to knit a monkey for Thijmen.
It’s name now is ‘granny’ 🙂

Apie in boom

Always naughty!

Then I received different kind of tops from our Spinning group. What a nice present.

I mixed the tops and started spinning..

I added Wensleydale yarn and thus used two threads.

I enjoyed monkey hanging in the curtain….
…there was enough yarn for two.

They keep me smiling 🙂

Every year at the Annual Spinning Day we are being surprised with a small amount of tops. We always can buy some more. I show some photos below.
I spun singles! The single yarn was steamed to set the twist. I don’t know yet how to use it, but in the meantime I enjoy looking at the result.

Years ago (2009) I spun mechanised flax. It became a holiday project.  Exactly 10 years later I finished plying. Plying is not really necessary however I want to weave with it and I thought it too thin.  That’s why!

LouetNow it is linnen. Three skeins with a total weight  of  470 grams
and the  length is 2456 meter. It is not yet washed.

Some time ago I knitted a sweater from my handspun yarn. After undoing and changing I finally was happy with the result. What about the leftover yarn? Normally you never use it.
However look….. a bag is a nice solution.  I often wear jeans and this way it became a nice combination.

Once I participated in a ‘spinning longwool’ workshop of the OLG.
Amanda was our tutor.
During that time we were on holiday in England and being in Wensleydale I bought a fleece.

Beauties! The photo isn’t mine.
I got permission to use it from the owner of this website …..use the link to admire her felting.
A couple of years the wool stayed in my stash!
Not that I forgot it….oh no….time was the real reason.
Until now…..

imageIt will keep me busy for a long time!

imageAll fibers long and short are combed with a Flickr. The short ones are going on my drum carder, the long ones not. Otherwise they will be trapped on the carder.

CloudsIt feels so soft!

Once upon a time the postman brought me a parcel with beautiful tops!
They came from the UK from Amanda. My favorite colours!Thank you!!

These tops are BFL (BlueFaced Lester)-Tussah silk 70/30.
After spinning:
The weight is 147 and 57 gram. The  length  is 905 and 267 meter.

The ‘single’ yarn was steamed to ‘set’ the twist.
steamNow how shall I use it….’Lace’ knitting or weaving?!

In the same parcel was this luxurious Tussah silk too….still silently waiting…..

……and a happy and healthy 2016
keep on spinning and knitting and weaving and crochet and so on, and so on!!!

My second top-down sweater. I chose a raglan sleeve and a v-neck.
I had to adjust a little, but knitting from the top that’s easy.
There is still some leftover yarn. I’m knitting a bag now.

I can wear it both sides!

The yarn is homespun

However when I wore the sweater the roll-collar flattened at the front and that irritated me!
It felt like a bib. I decided to undo the knitting and choose for the V-neck band.
From the leftover yarn I knitted a circle shawl.
V-neckCircle-shawl

frontV-neckOn the photo it looks a little strange, but it really is a big improvement (for me).

I did it! Today I finished my poncho!
My sister-in-law permitted me to use the model of her poncho. So nice of her! Thank you Loeska 😉
The first time I saw her wearing  it, I envied her, you know 🙂
The colours are different though.
Turquoise and purple are my favorite colours and I used red to brighten it up, but I already mentioned
that in one of my previous blogposts.
The fringes form a nice band at the bottom….(the way I braided them)…. I think 😉

The collar is knitted separately and sewed with the machine to the neck-piece

I never wove with such a thick thread in warp and weft. Two per cm.
The total width of my loom is used, 120 cm.
It’s  just a simple plain weave / tabby. The colours are the most important in this cloth.

I have been busy making a warp for my poncho.
The yarn I intended to use was very thin, compared to my own spun weft.
What to do….I decided to make a cabled yarn. I had never done that…..a real challenge it was.
Then I dyed the yarn and now I am threading the loom. First step done……

I finished the spinning of this ‘new blend’ several months ago! Dyeing was the second step.
Purple and turquoise are favorite colours of mine. The red is to brighten it up ;-)!!
I will weave the poncho and these skeins are for the weft.
The warp, I will dye the same and while weaving the same colours will find each other or mix!
A bit like this shawl….

…now all three fibers are carded together: wool, silk and viscose. It feels good, it looks good.
In time I can show a nice yarn, I hope….

It wasn’t a huge job….
Talking and knitting it was soon finished…..the yarn wasn’t even half way!
Because I’m not sleeping very well when I’m not in my own bed, I started a second one during the night.
It is twice the length and no yarn is left! I forgot to make a picture, sorry!

My spinning of the package….Annual Spinning Day 2011
Today the yarn is going with me to Elspeet for the Annual Spinning Day 2012!
I choose to knit the yarn….in the end a huge blanket will be the result
of our shared croched or knitting….

This I’ll take with me for one and a half day spinning……

The total weight of this amount is approximately 350 grams.
The blue nest is: swifter / merino / camel / silk / angelina
The green nest is:  Fries melkschaap / merino / mohair / soy-silk
The white ones: Blue Faced Leicester / baby Camel-tussah silk
The grey is baby Alpaca roving.
It should be enough 😉

The new colours of the Dutch spinning group….
Every visitor of the annual spinning day was surprised with these tops…

The  weight of the carded nests is 54 gr.
I like the colour variation very much…next…spinning.

It was easy spinning from the carded nests  ( present Annual Spinning Day 2010 )
As always I spun rather thin.
I will make a 2 ply yarn, but can’t decide about the second colour. Think….think….think….

In the year 2010 all visitors of ‘The Annual Spinning day’ in Elspeet,  got a fiber present.
mixed English breed / black viscose / fake cashmere / Trilobal Nylon…rainbow dyed
I blended all four fibers and here they are…..It is time I start spinning.

The total weight of these nests is 68 grams…

I started to knit a bolero from the dyed leftover Jacob Humbug / Alpaca yarn.
The pattern is from ‘Drops Design’  Fingers crossed!
