I wanted to knit a monkey for Thijmen.
It’s name now is ‘granny’ 🙂

Apie in boom

Always naughty!

Then I received different kind of tops from our Spinning group. What a nice present.

I mixed the tops and started spinning..

IMG_7227…and now…time for knitting !
I added Wensleydale yarn and thus used two threads.

I enjoyed monkey hanging in the curtain….
…there was enough yarn for two.

They keep me smiling 🙂

Aap Zara

It is so nice to knit this fellow.
This one is already in his new home with Zara Lynn who is 4 years old.

…this is Japie our cat! My granddaughter Zara Lynn was and still is his greatest fan. She loves him. So I thought it would be nice to make her a sweater picturing Japie. Hurrah I found a knitting  pattern.

Finished, she was happy with her new sweater…but…after sometime (she was already 4 years of age) she said “Japie has no eyes”. Of course she was right. As an adult I like the silhouette, but a 4 year old…..
When she stayed with us, I asked her advice. I cut the eyes and Zara added some other ideas :-).
The problem was, I didn’t have yellow buttons and the shops were closed because of Covid-Lockdown.
In my stash I found mixed grey buttons and I used these. His nose is a piece of felt. His mouth and whiskers were embroidered.

But it didn’t feel good those grey eyes, it wasn’t him. Think. think, think…and then I knew….and gave  it a try……
oog JapieNow the sweater is finished, it took some time, but owner and knitter are both happy with the result. 🙂

tuniekAt the left you can see how the shawl behaved while in use. I couldn’t stand that and looked for a new pattern. I found it on Ravelry.
It is designed by Rutast…… a Cowl named Armonika

I liked my re-knitted shawl!
There is only one thing I regretted at first, it is shorter.
But after wearing it a couple of times, it was good this way.
“all’s well that ends well”

I bought this yarn in a charity shop.  It felt like cotton! The sweater is knitted top down.
That suits me the best. The quantity of the yarn will always do, because I can adjust the length.

truiThe collar was annoying. Every time I didn’t like it or it didn’t feel right.
Three times I changed it and finally I was content.

roosI did crochet a flower to brighten it up.

picotand made a special edge.

draadThe yarn looked like a band.

detailbut it is a net and the core is cotton (?) I really don’t know.
But cute it is!

I had a lot of yarn.  Six balls each 50 gr. and each ball was approximately 400 m. / Lana Grossa: Lace Merino Print, 100% Merino Extrafine.

tuniekAs I am looking at the photo it is really very long. Maybe I will ad a photo of it when I am wearing it. I am not small but neither am I a giant.

In the meantime at the backside there was a huge hole from a screw in my loom (was very busy climbing in and out of it). But that was easy to repair because of my knitting ‘top-down’.
I was able to adjust the seam at the same time. I lengthened the pattern.

Last year we were invited to knit at a charity shop ( I am a member of a S&B group ). I went there with my spinningwheel…..It is the beginning before knitting isn’t 🙂 ‘There’ I found yarn I couldn’t resist. My colour and fluffy! At home I knitted a sample and I thought it too green. So I blended it with my indigo dyed chenille. That softened the colour. Lovely! I had enough yarn and decided to knit a long cardigan!

garendetailNowadays I frequently use this book for knitting: It makes me more creatief!

vestIt is a warm and cosy one!

Some time ago I knitted a sweater from my handspun yarn. After undoing and changing I finally was happy with the result. What about the leftover yarn? Normally you never use it.
However look….. a bag is a nice solution.  I often wear jeans and this way it became a nice combination.

My second top-down sweater. I chose a raglan sleeve and a v-neck.
I had to adjust a little, but knitting from the top that’s easy.
There is still some leftover yarn. I’m knitting a bag now.

I can wear it both sides!

The yarn is homespun

However when I wore the sweater the roll-collar flattened at the front and that irritated me!
It felt like a bib. I decided to undo the knitting and choose for the V-neck band.
From the leftover yarn I knitted a circle shawl.

frontV-neckOn the photo it looks a little strange, but it really is a big improvement (for me).

…here is my cardigan without sleaves. Ann Budd’s book is an eye opener.
At first it felt like thinking upside down.
When I didn’t quite understand  how to continue, I visited her group on Raverlry and asked for help.

I had to finish the borders and it took me a long time to decide what colour.
Finally I choose brick-red and dyed my home spun yarn (I am not sure, but I think it was Bleu du Maine).

I made two hues, light and dark and used them both.
However when it was finished, I thought, what a pity I can’t wear it on both sides! There is no seam…
…but the edges weren’t that nice on the purl side.
After deep thinking I undid one armhole and crochetted the first row, then I started knitting.

During the Annual Spinning Day in 2013 all members got a small bag with tops.
Four different combinations of colours, called: summer-autumn-winter and spring.

I spun it in a special rhythm.
After each part of a season I added dark alpaca. I plied the single with grey cria alpaca

……and I bought this book:

‘Granny, will you knitt socks for me???’ Surprised I answered:”Do you really mean that?”
And yes he was serious.

“Will you wear them?”
“Yes….”

Together we went to the shop, so he could choose his own colour.
Being 4 years old he could only see what was on the lowest shelf.
He took the yarn and said: “Oh no, I don’t like this one.”
It was dark!
Now it was time to lift him and yes he saw the yarn with green….his favourite colour.
(I knew he would like it, the moment I put my eyes on it.)

Time to get started.

I knitted and  measured and kintted and measured……

They are perfect!

On his socks he went upstairs to show me something.
‘Oeh, they tickle,”he said.  So we decided to take them off.
“I think my feet need to adjust to them.” 🙂

The next day a photo showed him, walking in the garden on his socks.
He even wears them inside out.
Job done!

I am a little late with updating my website. It is all about winter….nevertheless here they are….

At the moment I am knitting a shawl, a sweater and socks.

This shawl I started yesterday!

A sweater…from recycled yarn
Toe up socks from a sock blank named  ‘stripes’

The first time….. a sock with a special pattern…Nice to do….

and after weeks……and weeks…I did finish them….

my ‘poncho’ sock blank socks…..

It took some time, but here they are….

After knitting 6 pairs of hosetops for new members of
The Highland Regiment , I had enough…..

However…from time to time… 😉

Undone again! The yarn looks nice….

‘poncho’…..

‘stripes’…..
‘gaudy’…..

Time for knitting…..

Last Sunday I dyed these ‘future socks’ !

‘poncho’…..

‘stripes’…..

‘gaudy’…..

The big question now is….what will the socks look like!

I did it! Today I finished my poncho!
My sister-in-law permitted me to use the model of her poncho. So nice of her! Thank you Loeska 😉
The first time I saw her wearing  it, I envied her, you know 🙂
The colours are different though.
Turquoise and purple are my favorite colours and I used red to brighten it up, but I already mentioned
that in one of my previous blogposts.
The fringes form a nice band at the bottom….(the way I braided them)…. I think 😉

The collar is knitted separately and sewed with the machine to the neck-piece
